re-install vista 32-bit ultimate notes:

  1. Microsoft Direct X, SDK, Aug 2008 version. DXSDK_Aug08
  2. Update Matlab PLP license file without reinstalling all the matlab files. and create a shortcut: E:\MATLAB701\bin\win32\MATLAB.exe -c "E:\MATLAB701\bin\win32\license.dat"
  3. Install Microsoft Office 2003 and only choose word, powerpoint, access, excel and outlook and remove others. and then install Microsoft Office 2003 service pack3
  4. Microsoft Visio 2003 professional
  5. Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. Note that the installation DVD doesn't work well. I have to copy all the files to my local hard drive, and then run setup.exe under vs directory from there.
  6. Microsoft Media Encoder
  7. Sony Vegas 7
  8. Ultraedit
  9. Adobe reader 9
  10. CutePDF
  11. winrar
  12. Microsoft DirectX9 SDK december 2002
  13. Matroska splitter
  14. ffdshow tryout beta rev 2527 2008-12-19
  15. ssh ftp
  16. Cisco VPN client 5
  17. Source Insight 3.1
  18. Microsoft Visual Studio 6 professional (require reboot), run as administrator, otherwise will fail during installation. The major trick to install Visual Studio 6 on Vista is: The solution was to rerun the VS6 setup but deselecting the OLE Viewer from the tools option. That allowed VS6 to run to “successful” completion and, as a result, the service pack to install. Also, cannot remove visual foxpro or interdev, otherwise, the service pack 5 will complain that htmed.dll was unable to register, etc.
  19. After VS6 is installed, will need to download service pack 5, and make a few changes in the setup configuration file, and then install it. also require administrators
  20. Setup Outlook 2003 and the exchange server is: sjcwin09... NOTE: DO NOT import the old PST files. Instead, you should use open-> outlook data file to get all my old emails
